Best suited to Smaller motorcycles, scooters, dirt bikes and compact anchor-point arrangements. Regular dirt-bike transport and riders who frequently load and unload their motorcycle. Valuable road bikes, cruisers, adventure bikes, ATVs and riders wanting a complete setup. Heavy cruisers, touring motorcycles, larger adventure bikes, ATVs and demanding transport applications.
Main advantage Compact dimensions and flexible attachment hardware. Fast and straightforward tensioning and release. Four straps, four soft loops and the most complete package. Highest lashing capacity in the motorcycle range.
Important consideration Shortest and narrowest option. Choose the pack quantity required for your complete setup. Prioritises loading speed rather than maximum mechanical tensioning. Higher upfront cost, but includes more restraint and protection equipment. Supplied as a two-pack. Additional straps or soft loops may be required for your setup.

Lashing Capacity is not the same as breaking strength or motorcycle weight. The correct setup also depends on your anchor points, strap angles, attachment locations, pack quantity and the complete restraint system.

Two quick ways to choose

Match the Tie-Down to Your Setup

Start with your preferred tensioning mechanism, or choose the motorcycle and transport situation that most closely matches yours.

Ratchet vs Quick Release

Choose based on how you prefer to load and tension your bike.

More tensioning control

Ratchet Tie-Downs

A ratcheting handle builds mechanical tension in controlled increments. Best when strength and secure tensioning are the priority.

  • Higher mechanical tensioning ability
  • Suits heavier bikes and demanding transport setups
  • Available in compact, complete-kit and max-duty options
Keep in mind: Apply tension evenly and avoid unnecessary over-tightening.
Fastest to operate

Quick-Release Cam Buckle

Pull the webbing through the cam buckle to apply tension, then use the release lever when unloading. Ideal for regular, repeated transport.

  • Fast to secure and release
  • Easy to make small tension adjustments
  • Well suited to frequent dirt-bike transport
Keep in mind: Choose this for convenience rather than the highest available lashing capacity.
Quick-release option

Quality you can trust

Built to Australian Standards

A motorcycle is too valuable to trust to an unknown or unrated restraint. Monkey Grip tie-downs are manufactured to our specifications and comply with AS/NZS 4380:2001 for motor-vehicle cargo-restraint transport webbing and components.

AS/NZS 4380:2001 Compliance with the recognised Australian and New Zealand cargo-restraint standard.
Clearly Rated Capacity Choose from 450KG to 1000KG LC according to your bike and transport setup.
Purpose-Matched Options Ratchet, quick-release, soft-loop and latching-hook systems for different loading requirements.
The right tie-down is more than a strap. It is a rated restraint system chosen for your motorcycle, your anchor points and the way you transport it.

Motorcycle Tie Down FAQs

Which Monkey Grip motorcycle tie-down should I choose?

Choose according to your motorcycle, anchor-point arrangement and preferred tensioning method. The 450KG Compact Ratchet suits smaller motorcycles, scooters and tighter setups, while the 600KG Quick Release prioritises fast, regular loading.

Choose the 750KG Complete Protection Kit when you want four straps, four soft loops and the strongest all-round package. Choose the 1000KG Max-Duty Ratchet when the highest available lashing capacity is your main priority.

What is AS/NZS 4380:2001 and why does it matter?

AS/NZS 4380:2001 is the Australian and New Zealand standard covering motor-vehicle cargo-restraint transport webbing and components. Monkey Grip tie-downs are manufactured to our specifications and comply with this recognised cargo-restraint standard.

For riders, that means you are choosing from a purpose-rated range with defined lashing capacities, specified webbing and transport hardware—rather than relying on an unrated general-purpose strap.

Does an AS/NZS 4380 compliant strap make every setup automatically safe?

No. Standards-compliant equipment gives you a properly rated starting point, but the complete restraint setup still matters. You must use suitable vehicle or trailer anchor points, appropriate motorcycle attachment points and enough straps to control movement in every direction.

Keep hooks fully engaged, apply tension evenly, secure loose strap tails and stay within the Lashing Capacity stated for each tie-down.

How many tie-down straps do I need to transport a motorcycle?

Many motorcycle transport setups use four restraint points, commonly with two straps controlling the front and two helping control the rear and sideways movement. The exact arrangement depends on the motorcycle, trailer or ute, available anchor points and the manufacturer’s transport instructions.

The 750KG Complete Protection Kit includes four primary straps. The 600KG and 1000KG options are supplied as two-packs, so two packs may be required where your setup calls for four straps.

What is the difference between ratchet and quick-release tie-downs?

Ratchet tie-downs use a ratcheting handle to build mechanical tension in controlled increments. They suit riders prioritising tensioning control, greater capacity or more demanding transport setups.

Quick-release cam buckle straps are tensioned by pulling the webbing through the buckle. This makes the 600KG Quick Release particularly convenient for riders who load and unload their bike regularly.

Should I choose the 750KG Complete Kit or the 1000KG Max-Duty straps?

Choose the 750KG Complete Protection Kit when you want the most complete package. It includes four ratchet straps and four soft loops, helping keep metal hooks away from painted, chromed and finished surfaces.

Choose the 1000KG Max-Duty Ratchet when the highest available LC is the priority. It is supplied as a two-pack, so additional straps or soft loops may still be needed for your complete restraint arrangement.

What do Lashing Capacity and breaking strength mean?

Lashing Capacity, shown as LC, is the rated capacity used when the tie-down is securing a load correctly. Breaking strength is the force at which the tie-down is designed to break during testing; it is not the figure you should use as the normal working restraint capacity.

Never exceed the LC stated for the product. A higher number also does not automatically create a safer setup—strap angles, anchor strength, attachment points and the number of restraints all contribute to the final result.

Do I need soft loops when tying down my motorcycle?

Soft loops create an attachment point around a suitable structural part of the motorcycle while helping keep metal hooks away from paint, chrome and other finished surfaces.

They are particularly useful when a conventional hook cannot connect cleanly without contacting the bike. The 750KG Complete Protection Kit includes four separate soft loops.

When should motorcycle tie-downs be inspected or replaced?

Inspect the webbing, stitching, hooks, buckles and ratchet mechanism before every use. Do not use a tie-down that is cut, heavily frayed, stretched, corroded, deformed or no longer operates correctly.

Check the motorcycle and strap tension shortly after beginning your journey and periodically on longer trips. Tension can change as the bike, suspension and restraint system settle during transport.
